I decided to add a little more to this thread because of developments since the last time anything was posted in this thread.
You may have seen RegisterFly mentioned a few times in this thread. They ran into a lot of problems and all RegisterFly accounts were transferred to GoDaddy. You can read all of the very interesting details are in this thread
The RegisterFly mess - ICANN getting involved
Price, service, and convenience are all important to me. Peace of mind is also very important. I don't want to be worried about the future of my registrar.
I'm going to tell some of the reasons I use Go Daddy. Some of you who also use GoDaddy might want to give your reasons. Those of you who use other registrars might want to tell others why you made your selection.
Way back when I registered my first domain name the price was $100. Some of you who have been around a while might remember that. Eventually the price dropped to $35, but there was still only one registrar.
Competition started and I moved to one with a lower price and then to GoDaddy with even lower prices. I have now been with GoDaddy for several years and all of my domain names are registered with them.
GoDaddy is the largest registrar in the world. They have had very expensive commercials on the Super Bowl. They sponsored the Indianapolis 500. They have other sources of income in addition to being a registrar. They are big and seem to be very strong. I am not worried about them not being around tomorrow. That peace of mind is worth a lot.
With any company that has millions upon millions customers, there are going to be some people who aren't going to be pleased. However, the vast majority of people who are GoDaddy customers have nothing but good things to say about them.
