Hi Edwin,
Sorry you were declined. I think it was good they told you why and offered the option to explain and get a 2nd look. Most places just decline you without explaining why. The more targeted the offer the more strict affiliate managers sometimes need to be to assure affiliates have targeted traffic.
They do realize however that sometimes affiliates have new sites that aren't quite finished or have plans to build a site in that niche, so if you contact them and explain how you would drive traffic to their offers I'm sure they would reconsider.
I just thought of a great analogy (But sometimes my Linda analogies get me in trouble

) that may help affiliates understand what it's like to be an affiliate manager - evaluating hundreds or thousands of affiliate apps a day - many fraudulent, many just nowhere close to a fit. Anyway not a post for this thread, but maybe I'll try to write it some day.
Suffice it to say, many times a good affiliate will get declined in the process, but the AM does not know you and your intentions, they have to go on what they see. So if you have a good plan and a good fit that was not apparent by looking at your site, just contact them about it. I'm sure they'd be happy to listen.
