Those awards are all about politics. Kind of like getting a star in Hollywood. And revenue. And many of these guys are making significant bucks. Doesn't really matter how the money is being made. Unfortunate but the way it is.
Having installed through the Freeze.com web site myself more than once, I'm always amazed that ANYONE would jump through the hoops you have to in order to get that free screensaver...and who in the heck really LOOKS at their screensaver?!?!?! Personally I could care less what the screensaver is. If it's running it means I'm not in front of the computer and not seeing it anyway.
But aside from the bundles you get with Freeze, I felt there were several privacy issues. And once when I cancelled the install it still transmitted information back to their servers. But you pretty much have to give them your whole life story to get that screensaver...and go through tons of co-reg nonsense.
Amazing what folks will do to get something for 'free.'
