Great ideas! I like the Massive action piece. I am starting into the fourth year of my affiliate business. Originally my site was designed for horse people and people who enjoyed the western life style. I had tack companies, western wear companies, western home furnishings etc. but was still doing the 9 to 5 thing and worked on my site from about 4am till 8am each day before work. I actually started to make some money!! But this was providing only one avenue of income.
Then it hit me, like you said, in the middle of the night! I woke up thinking why limit this to horse people? There are billions spent each year in online sales and why not tap into that? I took what I considered to be massive action and started adding more categories and merchants. By year two things were really picking up $wise. My wife thought I was nuts and said she was a computer widow because with the regular job and the internet thing she was always alone. I then went out on a limb and started another 'massive action' campaign by creating a site that caters to the UK and European market. ( Huge internet shoppers)
To wind this up...a year ago I left the Job and since then my wife and I are together 24/7 I still work on the internet but I get up early and take care of business before she gets up. We are both so relaxed now that even she is giving me some new ideas.
To everyone out there, it's not easy money as they say but if you work hard and like Joe says don't worry about failing great things can happen.
