I think that a lot of new members are impatiently looking for instant gratification. They want to make money and learn how, and hope to get results very fast. Anything to keep their interest going, give them a little more information here and there. Not sure how exactly to do it, but people dont want to read a lot, they like the shoemoney type success stories. Everyone coming here should have an opportunity to feel like they are about to hit the big time

Please, please replace the current CAPTCHA set up for doing a forum search?
I'm getting totally frustrated with verifying that CAPTHA image each and every time i just made like about 5 attempts and i get a new image each time to verify. I enter the wrong info evidently each time i try.
This shouldn't be made so difficult. I'm not even trying to use the search function anymore now because of this annoying CAPTCHA image verification.
Hopefully this can be changed with a new user friendly set up?
Thanks.
I never search when logged out so never noticed how bad the CAPTCHA image verification.
I'm not getting CAPTCHA when I'm logged in, are you?
You should set the forum so it remembers you, then whenever you visit you
will be auto logged in and then when you search you won't need to deal with it at all.

-Edwin-, I will try to address what you said without getting too specific about some matters.
CAPTCHA is used to deal with automation and the problems that can be caused. Among other things, it is used to deal with spammers and to abuse of resources.
There are a lot of bad people in this world who want to do bad things and it is just necessary to try to make things more difficult for them. The more "user friendly" that you mentioned would make it a lot easier for automated software to gain access, and that is something we don't want to happen.
With the issue you raised, without CAPTCHA it would be easier for automated software to make thousands upon thousands of searches for no reason at all other than to try to cause problems. It would also make it easier for the posting of automated spam as well as several other problems.
A few weeks ago I had to make the CAPTCHA stronger (more sophisticated) in order to deal with some problems we were having. If we were to make it weaker, the main thing that would happen is that it would make it easier for automated software to try to create headaches in the form of much more spam and other matters that I don't care to get into.
If you are logged in you won't need to deal with CAPTCHA when doing searches. We have methods in place, other than CAPTCHA, to reduce seach abuse by logged in members. You won't have any problems conducting your searches if you are logged in and you won't need to deal with CAPTCHA.
CAPTCHA needs to be strong in order to make it possible for you and all of our members to enjoy 5 Star as much as possible without having to experience the potential problems that would be present with weaker CAPTCHA or no CAPTCHA at all.
Thanks so much for the suggestion. We have considered it many times and do want to grow membership. But we want quality members who want to be here for the right reasons. Too often membership contests attract more bodies, more spammers, more one-time posters, but not necessarily good on-going members.

Thanks Linda and Larwee, i noticed that when I'm logged in there is indeed no CAPTCHA requirement.
I understand the need for this and wouldn't want it any other way.
The thing is some CAPTCHA images used are just incredibly confusing and annoying for the real people that are being confronted with this.
