Default Windows Vista

Anybody besides me upgraded to Windows Vista?

I was wondering what you thought about the new OS?
Or are you like me, still plowing through it?

I upgraded my Microsoft Office to 2007 too.
Wow, that's also taking a chunk of time to learn how to use.
Anyone body do that too?

I have to say, other than the learning curves ... so far, I'm liking it.
I have a friend tho who did Vista and hated it.
He went back to XP.
In my book, there is no going back.
Better to stay current ... yes?

Bobbie,

Glad you brought this up!

I need to get a new PC. I'm shopping around for the most powerful,
trouble-free monster PC I can find. Just tired of getting bogged down while I work. I have a great system now but the hard drive is full and I have so much crap, that I don't even need, loaded up on this thing, it's just too bogged down. Would rather start over with a new fast maching then try to clean up and optimize this one.

However lots of the new machines come with Vista. I don't know ANYTHING about it and don't care to know. I guess I'm getting stagnant in my old age but XP works fine for me and I just don't have time to deal with something new, especially if it''s the least bit buggy.

So would love to hear everyone's feedback. Is it so hot it's a must-have or is it a pain to get used to???

I do a lot of video, audio, web design and programming on my computer. The new Vista has a premiun home edition that meets all of my needs and then some. It comes with software installed for working with photos and video, but I have the whole Adobe software line ... so, I'm uber geek in this area and wanted a solution that went the distance with me.

They've made Vista a lot more like being inside a Mac environment. For example, Vista desktop has a sidebar that you can have gadget in ... right now I have one running that's letting me view the pandas at the San Diego Zoo. Too cute!

So, it really depends on what you want to do with your computer. XP was working fine for me too, but I am liking Vista ... and the learning curve has been fairly short.

As for computers, I ended getting this one and then, adding another hard drive ... then doubled the RAM and memory on it. So, this machine is really powerful and should last a good long time. I also needed the ability to go mobile, so that's why I chose this one above a desktop. You should see the carrying case that fits it. It's huge!

So, what computer are you looking at?

Haven't decided yet, just know I want speed over 2 GHZ, at least 2GB ram and
at least a 500GB hd. And want a desktop don't need a notebook.

I like SONY but I don't want one of their all in one machines. Already have a great monitor and special wireless keyboard that works well for me so just want a new box to add to my network.

I'm going to do the 500G HD as an external storage drive just becuase the startup time on a HS that size is significant.

I highly recommend the 2G on RAM and CPU.

You can probably even have a box custom built for you.

Hi guys! Yes I got a new laptop with vista a couple of months ago, and my feeling towards it are mixed. I do like the way it looks as well as the widgets you can add. And searching for files and other apps on your computer is much easier and faster with vista. However, my biggest complaint with it is that it is really buggy. They need to work out alot of the kinks, for example, sometimes when I try to open a program, it does not open, and it ends up slowing everything down to a crawl. When I try to restart when this happens, it says that it is restarting, and never does, so I have to manually press the power button to shut it off. That is pretty annoying. Also I use xsitepro to build my sites, and some of the features don't work all the time, such as the preview button.

Oh well, once they get some updates going, I am sure it will be much better.

Good luck!

Yeah I hear you on these points.
My big problem has been with Dreamweaver, but similar issues to you.
It closes if I try to open anything.
I have to open pages in Homesite, and then tell it to open them in Dreamweaver. Crappy work around, but at least I found one.
Have to see if there's a patch for this yet.
