Minimal success
I'm a developer (or at least pretend in my spare time) and I built my own Amazon stores. I use the Amazon web services and my web sites look like my own stores but all content is pulled from Amazon. While I have made some sales, it has not been nearly the success that I thought it would be. Part of the issue, I think, is that it doesn't take long for the user to realize they are just looking at Amazon stuff. In that case they probably figure "why not just go to amazon.com?". There are probably some things I could go back and change to improve the sites, but I haven't had the time.
I have actually had better success by strategically placing affiliate links to specific, relevant Amazon products on some of my other web sites.
