Default Amazon for higher traffic sites

Amazon is a really tricky one. Funny because they got the whole associate/affiliate ball rolling in the first place.

I have amazon links on one of my sites but it is not the main source of revenue from that site.

The site averages about 1000 hits a day, which is not a lot of traffic, but i get some sales in Amazon from that traffic. I think 10 hits a day is just too little traffic to make any money from Amazon

There is the 1 day cookie clause which is just ridiculous. But it must be working for some affiliate marketers or they would have scraped it by now.

I remember there was an ebook making the rounds about a year ago called amazonian king. Claimed to make a fortune as an Amazon affiliate. Wonder how he is doing now?

The other problem with Amazon is it is such a household name that people do not need your affiliate link to find the site.

Having said all this in general, if you are running a campaign for any length of time [a month maximum for me] that has not paid for itself, either change it [that is try to improve it] or scrap it and move on.

I wouldn't say look at a time frame, I'd say need to look at # of clicks. Because a newbie could only get 20 clicks in a month and we wouldn't want him to scrap anything after a month, because that's not enough clicks to make a sale usually or enough data to even make any decisions. On the other hand a high traffic site could get 10,000 visitors in 3 days and if a campaign isn't working out after that much traffic maybe should re-evaluate, even though it's only been 3 days.

I have made small amounts with astores by hooking them up to related blogs or sites you are allowed 100 per member i have not got that many but it is an idea the amounts are small but they are low maintenance.
