Amazon to Launch Adsense Competitor? New Contextual Ad Network

"I was reading with interest over the weekend reports that Amazon is planning to come out with a contextual advertising program to compete with Google Adsense. Once MSN's ad program comes out this would give affiliates, bloggers and other publishers 4 ad options to choose from - Amazon, Adsense, YPN and MSN."

Linda,
As a person who has made his living from the Amazon.com affiliate program over the last 8 years I highly await word on this. Anything that improves conversion will make me happy.

I think this new program from Amazon is good news for affiliates because it gives them another way to generate revenue. Amazon and Google will have to earn publishers' business now, but it will be interesting to see how the new beta program from Amazon will fit into the marketplace. One article I read about it said"

"There's a clause in both contracts--Google's and Amazon's--that doesn't allow you to use more than one contextual ad program on a site."

Hi Richard and Jennifer,

I agree with you both. Competition is good - so it will be interesting to see how this shapes up.

I have also heard this on another forum that Amazon is doing something like this.

The more competitors the better as advertising rates will probably decrease, but publishers percentage cut of earnings will probably increase. Well thats what I hope will happen anyway.
