I'm new at CJ with no sales yet. I notice that applying to some programs I'll get an auto decline like:
Your application has been declined by this advertiser for one or more reasons. If you have a question please contact the advertiser through advertisers detail page within the account manager.
Why? I did a Google search and a big reason seems to be non-US residency... but that's not my case because I am here in the US.
Could it be they're declining because my total CJ sales so far are zero? Or what?
(yes, I know I can contact directly, but I'm trying to figure out why the auto decline in the first place)
OK, apparently CJ has filters which merchants can use to screen out (auto-decline) applicants based on location, earnings threshold, membership time, etc. HTH.
Although I suppose you can overcome that by emailing the merchant directly and explaining your case - has anyone done that?
Sorry, somehow I missed this post or would have answered. I guess you emailed support or found that info in the help docs somewhere.
Yes some merchants do screen based on any of those criteria simply due to the fact that they get so many applications. Typically if you take the time to contact them to plead your case and explain how you plan to market them, they will usually accept you.
Good luck!

Some affiliate programs are not very well managed and some managers are bad about reading and responding to emails unfortunately. But it's still worth a try and I'd hope the majority do respond.

I've tried e-mailing auto-declining companies before as well. Twice I received a reply saying they weren't accepting any new affiliates and the rest went unanswered.
I've been having this problem as well. My emails are met with the response that I was basically too small, or no response at all. I find it amazing that programs would turn away traffic. Just because you can't send a lot of hits, doesn't mean you don't have quality hits to send. Sigh!

Totally agree with you MommyFTW. I think every affiliate has potential and should be given a chance. Some merchants are shortsighted and others are just clueless.

Hello,
As an affiliate management company we see new affiliates with zero sales apply to our merchant programs every day. Most of the new affiliates never produce any sales and often disappear after finding affiliate marketing more difficult than they anticipated.
We also find affiliates applying to our programs when their description says they don't even market to our merchant's audience or demographics. =As a result of these main two factors we decline most of the new applications. However that being said if an affiliate is a serious marketer and they email us asking to be reconsidered we usually push them an offer.
