When applying to a CJ merchant, do they look at the website currently selected under Account - Website settings? I'm just wondering if I'm rejected by a merchant, would it be worth while to re-apply under another site, or do they look at all of your sites?
It depends on the merchant... some will look at all of your sites, some will just look at the first one they see. It's been a while since I used CJ but if you can apply different sites I would apply with the one that is the closest related to the merchant.
As a merchant, I review lots of applications everyday on Commission Junction. For my products, in particular, it is necessary that I review each and every Web site provided. I determine if the site is of good quality, if the site has content which will attract customers that will purchase my product.
I really wouldn't say you needed to 'trick' your merchants into accepting your application; you just need to submit a relevant and high-quality Web site.
Also, many merchants may have obligations which require them to deny you based on location. I have one state out of 50 that we cannot do business with. So, even though a publisher with a high-quality site comes to me, and their site is based in the above mentioned state, I must deny them. But not before telling them why FIRST. That is just an ethical thing to do.
Hope this helps,

That's odd... I assume you mean you can't sell to consumers in that state, but that doesnt mean the affiliate would be targeting that state. Why would it matter that the affiliate lives there. They'd be marketing nation-wide not by state. Ive never heard of anything prohibiting affiliates from a state.

Quite honestly, I've asked the same question at least 5 times. Legally, we are not to do business with this state at all. And to avoid any connection I am being told to deny applicants from that state. Sometimes I wish I had some education in law, but I assume many people I work for have done their research.

Thanks Affilinator. My question is, I may have 10 sites listed in my account at CJ. 9 of those sites are totally inappropriate for the product, but the one site I want to run the offer on is perfectly appropriate. There doesn't appear to be a way when applying to specify that only that one particular site will be showing the ads.
On another note, it's nice to see a merchant actually reply with reasons for rejection. The only rejections I've received are generic "sorry. don't take offence, but we don't like you and we're not going to tell you why. Go away now."
What I would do is send an e-mail through the program you are applying to. Send one either to a personal email address, the merchants email through the system, or both. Usually I check my mail before I check applications. I realize not everyone does this, but, at least you're giving it the best shot at being accepted.
Also, if you are rejected, you can always attempt to contact a merchant, and reapply. I am pretty sure you can reapply an unlimited number of times in CJ.
Hope this helps,

CJ really annoy me how applicaitons are rejected on the spot.
Its the merchant's loss really, I dont see why they wont just let anyone promote their offers.
I've had one case of contacting the merchant, sending them my site link and then getting approved after I was rejected. That seems to be a rare outcome though.
I was recently rejected by a merchant at CJ and emailed them asking them to reconsider and told them what product I wanted to use on my website. Much to my surprise they emailed me and said they looked at my website and approved me.
