I would also suggest trying a good anti virus program. I know Panda Cloud Antivirus is supposedly a good program. If you're already infected then you may need to have the viruses cleared off first before installing an av program.

I would try Panda's antivirus software. I have been using it for about a year now with no trouble. Does not use much processes such as Norton..

Secondly, I use Spybot to get rid of spyware/adware.

Both are free and work very well!

Microsoft Security Essentials IS a good antivirus program. I've tried most of them: McAfee, Norton, Avira, Avast, etc., and MSE is the best performing. It's also free. And it finds, detects, and removes other types of malware efficiently and without eating up your resources the way many do.

Periodically, I do run Ad-Aware or Spybot but really all they pick up are ad cookies which are harmless - MSE gets the rest.

If you tried the first releases, you may have been underwhelmed, as I was.

These are my two reviews of the product (pardon the links to own site but it's a free product, and these are not affiliate links or commercial links at all):
Review: Microsoft Security Essentials | PsychNet Reviews and Recommendations

Update: Microsoft Security Essentials | PsychNet Reviews and Recommendations
Microsoft just released a new version within the past couple of days and the update was smooth and seamless.

I recommend you to use NOD32, it is a great antivirus.
