Bing has a better conversion ratio as compared to Google. However, Bing gets low traffic share as compared to Google, but if you get some click from Bing then it will turn in lead ( on most of the occasions).

The best thing about Bing is that it has a better user interface and gives you a feel of FRESHNESS every single day.

Instead of focusing your optimization entirely on Google, one must concentrate on gaining rankings on other search engines including Bing and Yahoo.

Google Click Fraud rate (on PPC) is far much higher as compared to Bing/Yahoo.

Bing gives preference to few parameters listed below:-

1) Domain Age - Bing gives preference to the age of your domain. Google also gives preference to domain age.

2) On-Page/Off-Page Optimization - Bing gives more preference to On-Page optimization. However, Google gives more preference to off-page optimization. It is best to carefullly do on-page optimization and make sure your keyword density does not go overboard.

Among various on-page optimization factors, TITLE is the most important one. If your keywords are listed in the TITLE then you will get higher rankings on both Google and Bing.

Do share your experience of Bing V/S Google.

Hi all,

Sorry to keep bugging, but I just had a few more questions regarding SEO. I have the All-in-one SEO plugin installed in Wordpress, and have used various keywords to describe each post.

1 - I am seeing that several of my sub-pages have been indexed (woo hoo), but I found them through the Page title. For example, one page:

{URL removed}

If I search for "team canada womens roster" (without quotes), I find that I am on the 1st page of google. But it looks like Google found me because of the page title and the description. Are the keywords useful? I have several for this page including:

2010 olympic womens hockey
womens hockey roster
olympic canada womens roster

When I search for those terms in google, I don't find my site.

2 - How important are apostraphes? For instance, should I use "mens", or "men's"? I think for my Page Titles it would be hard to incorporate both.

3 - I am finding that my posts are being found in Google, but not my pages. Is this a keyword issue?

4 - Since some of my subsites are being found, should I add links to the pages where I would hope to get revenue from? Or are the Page links in the header sufficient enough?

5 - My site is being found when I use quotes "Team Canada Hockey Site", but is not found when I remove the quotes. Is there any concerns with this or is this still just a time issue that is taking place?

Thanks!

Depending on the keywords for which you want to get high rankings, you have to employ different tactics. Keywords with less competition require different tactics than keywords with high competition.

...

If you target long keyword phrases with little competition, then the relative value of on-page web page optimization is very high. For example, if you want to be listed for the search term "buy black adidas samba sneaker in knoxville" then it is enough to optimize one of your web pages for that search term because the competition for that search term is not high. You don't need many inbound links to get high rankings for that keyphrase.

The more competitive the targeted keyword is, the higher is the effect of inbound links on the position of your website in the search results.

Hi all,

I'm sure this has been covered before, so if anyone wants to point me in the right direction that would be fine as well.

Are there any other things that I can do to get my website up in Google? Here is what I am doing right now:

1 - I have a link in my signature of various forums that I visit related to my niche
2 - I am using the SEO plugin from WordPress
3 - I have META tags for title and keywords on my main "money making" pages.
4 - I plan to write some comments mentioning my website at other locations/articles
5 - I plan to write my own article on ezinearticles and squidoo

Are there any other tips to get your ranking up? Right now when I search for my site, it only displays the URL as the name and not the actual title of my worldpress blog. I assume it is still getting indexed, but i'm hoping to speed this process up.

Thanks!

Back in August we mentioned a developer preview of Caffeine, which is new technology that improves our indexing infrastructure. The feedback on Caffeine has been very positive, so we’re ready to move from the developer preview to the next stage of the roll out: going live with Caffeine at one data center. This means that a small percentage of Google’s users will benefit from the technology behind Caffeine in their regular searches.

I know that webmasters can get anxious around this time of year, so I wanted to reassure site owners that the full Caffeine roll out will happen after the holidays. Caffeine will go live at one data center so that we can continue to collect data and improve the technology, but I don’t expect Caffeine to go live at additional data centers until after the holidays are over.

Hi all,

I've only recently gotten my site indexed on Google and only submitted a sitemap today, so i'm not sure if this is a time issue.

Right now when I search for my URL in google, my site comes up (good thing). But in the results, the website title is being displayed as my website URL, and not the title that I have assigned in WordPress. Do I need to add additional tags in WordPress so that the title is displayed instead of the URL?

The other issue I have is that my description is google is displayed as:
sitename.com · T2. Posted by | November 3rd, 2009 Filed in topics ... sitename.com is proudly using the Vinica theme.

For one, I am not using the Vinica theme, and two...how can I fix that to show a site description?

Thanks!

There are a great many ways for URLs to be rendered unusable. They can be mistyped or misspelled by the user, the page can be moved, renamed, or deleted by the webmaster, and the URL can be incorrectly written by external webmasters who create the outbound link from their sites to your, which is the most frustrating situation for the webmaster of the intended destination.

So when a potential customer of yours, interested in learning more about what you do or what it is your site has to offer, uses an erroneous URL for a page within your website today, what do they get? Do they get the Web's equivalent of the blue screen of death, a useless page that stops them dead in their tracks and forces them to move on to a competitor's site? Or do they get a page with helpful guidance that keeps them in your site, offering to assist them with finding the information they seek?

As webmaster, you control how you rename and remove pages from your site (see information on using redirects to point to moved and renamed pages in an earlier SEM 101 article). But you can't control the content of your inbound links, nor can you nudge that user who can't spell or remember your page-naming scheme (yet another good reminder to make the file names of your pages logical and easy to remember). So instead of cursing the darkness of silly users over whom you have no control, instead light a metaphorical candle by creating a custom 404 error page.

The Bing team has been talking about its new crawler (aka bot), MSNBot 2.0b, in this blog for quite some time now. We have made numerous improvements in its performance, addressed some webmaster concerns, and published detailed information on how to control the bot with a robots.txt file. Today we are announcing that the new bot is fully operational. This development will enable Bing to do a better job at gathering the information we need from the myriad of websites we index worldwide.

As MSNBot 2.0b enters full-scale production, the time has come to retire our previous generation bot, MSNBot 1.1. By the end of the first week in November, you will no longer see the following user agent in your referrer logs:

Code:

msnbot/1.1 (+http://search.msn.com/msnbot.htm)

The only Bing user agent you will see in your logs from this point forward will be this, our new bot:

Code:

msnbot/2.0b (+http://search.msn.com/msnbot.htm)

I was glad to see one of my client's sites move up 101 spots today - though, it's still not close to the first page and I know it's going to get tougher since I'm running into legitimate competition.

But how I did it really puzzles me, I guess in a good way. I would leave a few backlinks from relevant forums and then leave regular sig links from SEO forums such as this. I did however create 15 Web 2.0 properties - but - these are not indexed as of yet, so I know that they didn't help.

There is going to be a lot of ppl disagree w/ me about this - but I'm believing now since I'm moving up (so far anyway) is because I kept the anchor text the same. In the past, I would have different variances of my anchor text, but this time, I thought I would try a little experiment - and so far, it is working.

What do you guys think? If you keep your anchor texts the same - will it hurt or help? Seemed like it is helping me - but I might be bragging a little to soon...

However hotbanana-icecream.com and hot-banana-icecream.com are both available.

As far as optimizing youir site is concerned - would either of those be equally SE friendly ? Or would you be better adding another word to keep the phrase without dashes - such as hotbananaicecreamtoday.com

I'm in that quandry right now (nothing to do with ice cream or bananas) - so any thoughts are very welcome.

When I am getting backlinks, do they need to link directly to http://subdomain.example.com to contribute to my PR? Or can I link to either of the other 2 examples and get the same PR benefit?

Thanks!
