I was wondering if any of you can point me to any effective advertising sources you may know of. I need to start sending lots of traffic to my website.
These are probably buried in those threads somewhere but a few ad sources that CAN work good depending on your niche...
Google Adwords - best for getting lots of traffic fast. BUT you need to learn to do it right or it can be a very expensive waste of money.
Adbrite - can get some decent buys sometimes.
Stumbleupon - You can buy advertising by category for 5 cents a click which is super cheap. It's not great quality traffic and probably won't convert well but it's a solid way to get some decent traffic.
Hope this helps and best of luck!

Google Adwords will give you the most traffic and will do it fast. Make sure you're educated on how to properly set up your campaigns, first. Go buy anything from Perry Marshall to get educated.

Some traffic sources are not allowed by a lot of affiliate networks and can get you bounced out without any payment.
Linda, I once had a problem with adbrite because they sent me traffic from ads on adult and pornographic sites. They didn't disclose that clearly to me up front and it was against my TOS with an affiliate offer to generate traffic from adult sites. I had to pay adbrite, but didn't get paid from the affiliate site. (Lesson learned)
Many offers are now not accepting co-reg traffic either so it's always important to understand where it is O.K. to get traffic when sending it to affiliate offers or even to your page with affiliate offers presented there.
That was a good lesson learned - a hard one I'm sure. When I've advertised there I picked the sites I wanted to advertise on so I only got fairly targeted traffic, but I think they have an option to CPC from the network or something which may have been what you did.
But a really good point to bring up. Know your merchant's TOS and know where your traffic is coming from.
