Not sure what you mean.
Linda, I mean putting an RSS feed on an actual WEB SITE as opposed to BLOG into the PHP and then each time the content is refreshed through the feed I could ping through pingoat or whatever, to get back links as in the video tutorial posted in this forum by Ross Goldberg? Start Affiliate Blog - Step by step and COOL Tools
Ross uses the blog as an example of pinging and building backlinks through feeds, I am wondering if I could this on a website NOT a blog?

No can't ping unless it's on a blog platform. It's the blog programming that allows and facilitates the ping.

No I think pinging when all you are doing is sucking someone else's content is considered scraping.

Ok, I realize I am a little late to this topic...so please forgive me if this has already been mentioned...

If you have a Wordpress blog...WATCH YOUR PINGING with new posts.

Wordpress has a feature in the admin panel that pings automatically. Also, there is a list of directories you can set it to ping automatically each time you post.

Here is the list:

ishinao.net
http://api.feedster.com/ping
http://api.moreover.com/ping
http://api.moreover.com/RPC2
http://api.my.yahoo.com/RPC2
http://api.my.yahoo.com/rss/ping
http://bblog.com/ping.php

http://ping.blogmura.jp/rpc/
http://ping.cocolog-nifty.com/xmlrpc
http://ping.exblog.jp/xmlrpc
http://ping.feedburner.com
http://ping.myblog.jp
http://ping.rootblog.com/rpc.php
http://ping.syndic8.com/xmlrpc.php

http://www.snipsnap.org/RPC2
http://www.weblogues.com/RPC/

cPanel®

You put that in the "Settings / Writing" area of your Admin panel, you will see once you log in to your blog.

Anyhow...DO NOT double ping! Since WP automatically pings, if you go to Pingoat, and ping again, it can actually get your blog removed from the directory, and you won't know (to my knowledge).

Just thought I would share

I have an RSS feed set up on my site and it works great. Everytime I update I submit a ping.

Default Wordpress Effectiveness

Should wordpress be the first software I look to when starting my blog? What are some good alternatives to using Wordpress? I need software that is easy to use, basic and efficient... but I want to be able to utilize more sophisticated features in the future. Any information would be helpful.

John,

I am pretty certain every pro here would tell you to go with Wordpress for many, many reasons. There is really no better option. It's easy, always being upgraded and important too is the fact that it's widely supported, therefore has tons of plug-ins and options being developed all that time that offer added features when you are ready for them.

I realized that I really like blogging (I started to blog just to drive traffic to my site), but now Wordpress, Joomla and CMS are becoming the big players over static html sites.

People love them and SE love them. It's a win win situation.
Yes Jack Humphrey did a good job with authority blackbook.I have read it several times and am going to be reading it every available spare time I have because it is loaded with many resources you can't just afford not to use in your blogging experience.I don't really know which is best between WP and Joomla now.But am going to be trying Joomla soon.

Linda thanks for this great wonderful resources you just posted.Infact,I have been looking for good blog directories I will be submitting my blogs to.You just simplified the search.
