How To Advertise For Free?

I was wondering what the best ways to advertise for free are. I heard that there are free ways to advertise on the internet and since I'm new to affiliate marketing i don't have very much knowledge about advertising. I would like to try free advertising but i would also like to know if free advertising is effective. I would appreciate any information on this.

Many of those methods are free. Realize getting free traffic typically means more intensive time investment and slower growth. The fastest way to get targeted traffic is to buy it - through top tier PPC.

Free usually is more work and takes longer to get to the end goal. But free traffic is where most affiliates had to start and many of them do well.

Thanks for the replays, i was wondering how to advertise for free because i currently don't have the funds to spend on paid advertising and i was thinking that through free advertising i could build up some money so that i can start using paid advertising.

ALSO usfreeads.com is a great resource for traffic, premium membership costs 9.99 per month for unlimited ads BUT I think they have a free option too, GREAT exposure and they rank very high with Google.
