Default Best Way To Post News To Web Site?

I'm working on a couple of affiliate web sites and I'd like to occasionally post relevant news articles, or links to news articles, to my web site.

Do I need to get permission from the newspaper, magazine, or online news source to post the entire article? If so, how should I go about that?

Do I need to get permission to just post a link to the article w/the headline?

Any examples would be much appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Thank You,
Richard

Hi Richard,

Welcome to 5 Star. Well in the online news/blogoshere a title and summary or short paragraph quote with a link to the rest of the story is customary and accepted. When it comes to actual media outlets I'm not exactly sure. I've done the above with the New York Times and Wall Street Journal with no problems and many other bigger bloggers than me do as well.

However I don't pretend to know copyright law well, so when in doubt always check official sources.
I'm not sure where to send you besides doing a Google search.

Maybe someone else has some ideas???

This is the 1st thing I found with a quick search.
Quote:
"The "fair use" of a copyrighted work, including use for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright. Copyright owners are, by law, deemed to consent to fair use of their works by others.

The Copyright Act does not define fair use. Instead, whether a use is fair use is determined by balancing these factors:

* The purpose and character of the use.
* The nature of the copyrighted work.
* The amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole.
* The effect of the use on the potential market for, or value of, the copyrighted work."
I got that from FindLaw and it's a very in-depth article. Read the rest here.

Hi eight pieces,

What I do on my site is I have a content page for news and I have widget that RSS feeds news from a high authority site in my niche, The widget and the feed came directly from the authority site I chose and I just added the code to my site and its on auto.

What is interesting is that I was well indexed by G when I did this but they were crawling my about every two weeks, and had just crawled it the day before I added this RSS. Then the next day I noticed they crawled it again (which was not usual) AND indexed THAT page almost instantly. Coincedence? Maybe! But whatever works.
