You get what you pay for. It would not cost you anything but time and you most likely would not make anything either.
If you need to start with a free site, start with a blog then at least you could possibly get a little love from the search engines. Many of the freebie web hosts are not liked by the search engines and many of their site designs are not very search spider friendly.
