I must admit I have been guilty of getting caught up in the "eBook" collection craze. I didn't know anything and I wanted information so I could perform like the "pros".
Then I began to notice the same information was out there for free. I realized that promoting an ebook was how some of these "gurus" were making the big bucks. Live and learn.
Now if I want some good info I look through quality forums. If I am tempted to buy a product I do some research. Does the author stand behind the product and his or her name and reputation is at stake. Is the author accessible if I have questions. Is the producted being hyped or being offered.
It seems the reputable gurus now offer a lot of good reports and information for free. I have learned a lot from SiteSell products.
But in the end any ebooks only provide value if the information is put into action.
I bought a well known ebook, but only because it was only $10. I wouldn't have done it if I had had to pay more. I actually DID get my money's worth, because as a total noob, I had no idea where to start, and learned a lot about affiliate directories, and niche marketing, and adsense, and adwords from it. I still refer to it occasionally. The problem was, that they sent me a free "technique" that is questionable at best, and downright dishonest at worst. When I saw that, I knew that I didn't want to go that route.
Sites like this have been much more valuable, because it's people speaking from experience, and not trying to sell you anything.

Dowload it right away so you have it, even if you don't have time to read it right now
OR think you know it all. I grabbed a copy and I already know it all!
Happy reading!

Thanks for that link, Linda! Downloaded it and glanced through, and it looks like a gem.
Yeah, all this stuff is out there for free, and I bookmark every place I find it, but the time I saved by spending the $10 for that book was well worth it. But like I said, I wouldn't have paid more. I AM, after all very frugal!

So far so good on the book! Because I am new to the affiliate world I am reading it word for word. If your past novice you may not have to. Something like this is exactly what I needed to find to help me. As I've said before I've been overloaded with info from this super highway - each and everything has to be researched as a possible scam. I feel comfortable with this website and I feel their recommendation takes the scam research out of it which really helps me move along at a more efficient pace!
I'm about halfway through, unfortunately everyone needs me today so I have to stop, nothing like having to put down a good book
Note: on this ebook... It should be very good, is from a SUPER trusted source, etc.
However there is no one right way to start and this may not be the best
method for some people.
Have not had a chance to read it yet but I believe he focuses on PPC affiliate marketing, which may not be for everyone. My guess is it had some good info for you even if you are not going to start with PPC.

I agree with you that you do not need to buy a ton of ebooks to get a start in affiliate marketing. As you have pointed out a lot of the material is available free online, all you need to do is know where to look.
The problem is as an affiliate marketing newbie, you do not know where to look
As a newbie, i bought tons of ebooks and found that a lot of the content is just rehashed info from another ebook. There were no insider secrets, there was no earth moving tip. Of course this annoyed me, the industry was full of scammers or so I thought.
I have however come across some really useful and informative ebooks that have truly helped me take my business to the next level.
It just is not right that people are ripping off newbies, it gives this business a bad name. I would like to be able to tell people i meet that i am an online marketer without cringing about it.
I believe in doing something about things that anger me. A lot of people just sit back and complain but this just does not make the problem go away
One of the reasons that some Gurus have become so successful is for one of two reasons.
1) They put together a product that is new and then offered a share of the profit to the ones who have developed a large list already. Known as Joint Ventures.
2) Found a Niche market, learned the ropes, deveolped a landing page, collected their own list of names and built their business brick by brick and mistake by mistake.
I have a lot of ebooks myself. I have them printed out and then placed in a 3 ring binder for reading. I highlight the areas of advertising and fourms and other important areas and refer to them often.
There are some really good ebooks and software out there ( I just enjoy reading) but you can't buy the same thing over and over. You have to start over coming your fear, set your daily schedule and build as you go and keep your wallet in your pocket and resist the urge.
I have learned some very good tecniques from honest marketers that I would never have known if I had not read and researched. Like Linda said though. Be careful and don't get caught up in 5 membership sights or ebooks that copied from each other.
