Yes it's difficult to simply give a market, especially because you have to gauge your personal strengths. Go with something you are passionate about and can speak about intelligently.

Every day, I get a niche in my mailbox. He also gives a count on the hits and
conversions. And then he includes an attachment of all the keywords. It's free, too.
nicheaday.com is fun. I'd subscribe for fun and to stimulate ideas.
As a newbie I would never pick one of the niches it suggests because most are too competitive for a newbies very 1st site. PLUS that same niche and all the same KW go out to a bunch of other marketers so...
But I think it's a great service and fun.
