Default Finding Your Niche

It can be a really difficult thing when you first start out to actually find your niche
The best way is to actually avoid starting off your research from the "adsense" mania. The most important thing is to make sure your site is profitable, and the best way to ensure that happens is to have your own product. If you sell your own product from your own site, then you are on to a winner

Hobbies and interests are the best place to start, but remember that most niches are already crowded. But this is not true for everything

Having you own product that you can sell to people is a real must

Yes you can get lots of backend sales from affiliate programs of one kind or another, but you will find affiliate sales will be much less than selling your own product that you have a passion about

Let me just give you my experience

I have a hobby of horse racing. I love the sport and always have
My particular hobby was to calculate a matematical rating for each horse in a race. I never had any idea I would turn it into a business, or that it would actually sell online. But I perfected my ratings formula, and the tips that come from it, and then I started out with just a "free" website. I was amazed that people started paying me. So I bought a domain name and added my paypal links, and bingo I had the start of a real great business with a recurring payment for my services

The point I want to make is this - YES I get clicks from Google and affiliate programs of various kinds, but this is as nothing compared to the ongoing sales, of my products month by month. In addition, because it is a hobby, I have the passion to keep developing the site, and adding new content all the time etc. This is very important. My site has also been listed quite highly on the search engines, so that I get traffic every day without actually doing anything to promote the site

So my advice is dont start by trying to find the most profitable keywords and then building a site round them. Most people have already been there before you, and where there is a profitable keyword, you can bet your bottom dollar there will be thousands of sites. Certainly check how many sites come up when you type in your keywords and keyword phrases, but the internet is a funny old thing. Sometimes you find something where there are not so many sites, but then when you build you own site you cant a ranking for love or money - even though for more competitive niches you get a bigger listing!

Im afraid its a little bit of trial and error
It only costs you $8 for a domain, so it doesnt really matter that much if you have to scrap what you've got and start again
Keep trying eventually you will find something that is profitable and meets your interests at the same time. However you will always do alot better if you also have a product of your own that you can sell as well

I have been reading the tutorial and want to jump in and reading the tut presented a couple of questions for me:

Using the bookmarklet never gave me a screen like this one presented in the tutorial:

and the numbers presented would be the amount of searches per day.

Why is this?
Also is the number presented the daily searches being performed? Since 90 X 333 is not correct with the above number presented,

320,846,466 searches (last 90 days)
Or is this number associated with all the other related keywords?

Another question is how many blogger accounts can you have? - I presume each blog is connected to a separate account right?

Thanks in advance guys.

Thanks for the feedback guys!

Anyone succeeded in finding a niche under ten minutes with a respectable amount of searches and not that many Google results?

Should a following result appear:

Results 1 - 10 of about 609 for "keyword keyword"
$10.71 <-- Esitmated Adwords Value

Search without quotes is Results 1 - 10 of about 247,000 for keyword keyword

Would this be a good niche to target?

The thing is the search without quotes gives a substantial amount thus competition or is the search with quotes a better guideline to work from?

Your input is very much appreciated!

Edwin

Hi Edwin,

Sorry I missed your post and question.

"The thing is the search without quotes gives a substantial amount thus competition or is the search with quotes a better guideline to work from?"

Actually you may find allintitle: is something to check too. People can have certain keyword on thier pages but they aren't in anyway trying to optimize for those words therefore aren't really stiff competition. If the KW is in the title they are more serious competition.

Example "Corvette parts" in quotes. Many of these may just be mentions of the phrase and not stiff competition. For example someone writing in a forum they are looking for "Corvette parts" or just got some new "Corvette parts".

Google results
"Corvette parts" with quotes 460,000.
Without quotes 1.8 million
allintitle: "Corvette parts" 19,200

Just something else to think about and research.

I just finished reading BumMarketing and love the strategy he outlines. It's a great free way to drive traffic to your website without paying a dime with google?

People are spending up to $4000 per month with adwords when this guy shows you how you can do it completely free.

Check it out.

I mostly agree with your assesment, although you almost make it sound foreboding, lol. As with anything else, there needs to be a lil' elbow grease and sweat and tears to get the ultimate joy that comes from investing that time and energy. And then there are the all too occasional, sometimes villainous personalities that wish to pray on the so called 'noobs' that all to often bring about the 'throw in the towel' attitude prematurely in individuals that may have been moments away for flourishing. I've been online for 11 years and I have seen some awesome and terrible things. But I still believe that if one wants to write their own ticket, the world wide web is still one of the best, if not the best avenue to bring that goal to fruition.
