Hello everyone, this is actually my first post in this forum and I find this thread really informative. As a beginner like myself who doesn't even know where to even begin, I came across a very good resource called Niche A day. FREE Daily Brainstorming eMail.
The owner of the site sends a short NicheADay email everyday to you which contains a single niche market, the monthly traffic it gets and the current high PPC bid for that particular niche! The data is sent as an e-mail attachment in excel spread sheet and according to the owner of the site the keywords are from 180 search engines and best of all it is Free.
Thanks samo, for mentioning Niche A Day. I've been subscribed for awhile and its a good service. They don't send you a bunch of ads either. Most times it's just the keyword data.
Keep in mind many of the "niches" they send are not all that nichey and some are really competitive - so mainly use it for idea generation.
Another niche idea stimulator that I like even better because you can gets a bunch of niches right away instead of one a day is the Random Niche Generator at VREToolbar.
Click "get another niche" and keep doing it until you hit on something that sounds interesting then CLICK KEYWORD RESEARCH & WAIT A SEC. Some KW searches take awhile. Pretty darned good data for a free tool!

thanks Linda, I do have the VRE Toolbar, but have never really known how to use it. I was even doing a research on how to use it on when I stumbled across this forum for the first time, through a positive comment you made about the Toolbar.
However, I have been wary to use the toolbar because each time I launch it on Internet explorer browser, the AVAST antivirus software which I use, detects it as a virus. In most cases I've had to disable my antivirus to use it. But if the Toolbar is going to really help me in my quest, I might as well disable the antivirus each time I use it then enable it afterwards.
Please if you could give more tips on its use ,I'd really be grateful. Thanks

Simple solution - use FireFox - it's better and safer anyway.
WREtoolbar is really easy to use. PLUS I talked to the owner about buying the company so know him a little and am not the least bit concerned about adware or spyware. I trust him and have had no problems at all with the FF version.

Thanks Linda, I just installed VRE Tool bar on FireFoxand it works perfectlywithout any problems. I have also started to use the niche generation tool and gotten a niche which I am working on. I really liked the aspect where I could check the adwords estimate using the toolbar. The toolbar is really comprhensive. I am also collaborating the demand and supply of my chosen niche with adwords analyzer. Thanks for helping out. Since I am just starting out, I'd like to highlight my progress on this forum, I hope thats ok. Thank you so much once again
Sure, we like hearing people's progress reports as long as they are for sharing to help others and not dropping links. Not that you would do that just making a general point. We'll cheer you on or give you tips if we can.

It seems there is an endless source of untapped research resouces. I did actually go checking things. I couldn't locate how to access that page on Amazon but will keep looking. Good things to incorporate into a good marketers research methodology.
I noticed Google Answers has been retired since the post was made. So Yahoo reigns supreme. The Internet is constantly evolving. So there is survival of the fittest involved. Some other "Q/A" sites I have seen are answers.com and allexperts.com
Wondering if wordtracker is a worthwhile investment for a successful marketing business or are the free keyword research tools sufficient.

Choosing a niche that you are interested in is the best thing to do. Don't choose the niche just because they are popular or everyone is going crazy over it. It is important that you know your niche well so that it will not hard for you promote it. Understanding your niche can get the competition a lot easy.
Most of the seasoned IMers I know, suggest Google Trends, Google Insights, look for niche mags on Amazon and hot sellers on eBay. I also track with yahoo and msn when nothing on google strikes a chord.
