Good news, e-tailers! Sales by online retailers outperformed overall retail sales in 2007. E-tailers made $136.4 billion last year, up from $114.62 billion in 2006. Overall retail sales grew by 4% in the last year, but e-tailer sales grew by an astounding 19%. The latest Commerce Department report illustrates the phenomenal growth being experienced by e-tailers. In the fourth quarter of 2007 alone, e-tailers brought in $36.2 billion in sales. The 2007 holiday shopping season brought $29.2 billion in online sales, an 18% increase over 2006 and a 137% increase over the $12.3 billion in sales in 2003.
