I fail to see how a cookie is an invasion of privacy:
it resides on your hard drive
the information is tailored to a specific website that you have chosen to visit
the information stored in a cookie has no value unless you revisit that site
Don't like cookies? Set your browser to delete them when you close the browser. That way if you revisit the same site you'll be seen as a brand new visitor.
