Absolutely! If you have a business, and it is not online, you are missing out on some major exposure.

If you are concerned about the cost - it doesn't have to be expensive at all.

I am not exactly clear on what "merchandising companies" do. I gather it is a go between for the manufacturer and the company that actually sells the product? If this is the case, it would greatly benefit you to join sites like "Facebook" and "LinkedIn". They are social networking sites, and those two are primarily business based. (Plus, they are free!)

There are a lot of ways that are both inexpensive and effective when it comes to advertising online. Check out the term, "viral marketing". It will help you a lot.

Also, learn how to put a "spin" on your business to make it useful for a target market that you may not have thought of before. If you are part of a small business, you might be able to add another dimension to your business for more revenue.

Think creative! Get out of the norm, and even redo your business plan to include the internet.

If you are not familiar with the internet, and all it can offer, I suggest hiring somebody who is. It will be well worth the investment.

toptenws we don't mind links to good resources and welcome them. The only time it is a link drop, is if someone links to a site they own or have a financial interest in.

Article marketing is a useful technique but there is a caution ,if someone copies your article and puts it on a place where it get crawled first then u would be devoid of that articles benefit for ever.

That is 100% false, the whole object is to get your article republished in as many places as you can, this builds inbound relevent links to your site.

You are worried about duplicate content, and that is not a factor with articles, if it were, the AP would be out of business online and there would be no squabble of rights to reprint AP articles on the web (they now charge for rights).

The bottom line is that the more it is published, the better off your site is, so it actualy gets better for you and your site if it is republished.

Surely article submission is the primary way of getting traffic and marketting your site.

There are some famous article directories like articlebase, articlecube, ezine articles etc.

Agreed, article marketing is a great way to start building targeted traffic, and is probably the best way of traffic building technique for somebody starting out. One more method that I make use of is referral marketing, as referrals have always been an extremely powerful way of gaining traffic and customers. In fact, tell-a-friend referrals bring the best traffic a website can get, because a referral adds real credibility.
