One needs to strike a balance between RSS distribution and the existing article distribution services, some of which can pump your articles to tens of thousands of eager recipients.
RSS is becoming the premier distribution method but it's just not completely there yet...it will, when the mushrooming RSS applications knock off the much maligned email distribution model...
I do write articles occasionally and my article directory is very RSS ready; feeds which I promote very vigorously, but I still get more traffic from articles posted manually and willingly by blog & website owners.
The key to article marketing is "Quality" AND NOT "Quantity".
A bad article(s) will not bring you any "qualified traffic" no matter which method you use to distribute it.
