Default www etc in backlinks?

OK, say I have a site that is at:
http://subdomain.example.com.

I also have a 301 redirect from:
http://www.subdomain.example.com.

And, I have the domain name:
http://subdomain.com that redirects to http://subdomain.example.com.

When I am getting backlinks, do they need to link directly to http://subdomain.example.com to contribute to my PR? Or can I link to either of the other 2 examples and get the same PR benefit?

Thanks!
Marie

I don't think http://www.subdomain.example.com is a correct format. At least you never see www. used in front of a subdomain - it's always just http://subdomain.example.com so I'd only link to that one.

So, if I use just subdomain.com (that redirects to subdomain.example.com) will that give me the same PR benefit?

I don't see how you could use subdomain.com by itself.

Are you saying you are forwarding a full domain like dogs.com to your subdomain at dogs.yoursite.com?

If so then I'm not absolutely certain but I believe you'll only get PR benefit if you link to dogs.yoursite.com directly. I don't think the PR benefit would pass through the URL forwarding.

However you need to weigh the visitor benefit too. If you think more people would click through to dogs.com then that's worth something too.

If I were you, I will simply do the obvious, link directly to http://subdomain.example.com and get all the juices of a link than experimenting with what might end up being a waste of time.
