It would be so, if Google remained the only web-company out there. As long as there are competitors, democracy on the Internet will not be endangered.

A bigger threat to a democratic internet is Microsoft's lust for Yahoo. That would be much more disastrous for the internet community as a whole than Google acquiring Digg.

A competition between the Google monster and the Miscrosoft one would, on the contrary, ensure the Internet democracy, as no party would dominate over the web.
