Default Real Networks added feature

Hi 5SAP

It is great to have a place where you can post information about an affiliate program.

I work on the Real Networks affiliate program and they have two great products Rhapsody and SuperPass.

Rhapsody now has an extra added feature called Portability. The Portability feature allows subscribers to download free music directly to their MP3 players. So if you know your members are looking for music to download onto their MP3 players then you should promote Real Networks.

Finally, if you have a coupon site then we want to hear from you! We have an exclusive offer for 5SAP members. So send us an email at real@shareresults.com with the subject line "I want to learn about the 5 star deal"

To check Real Networks offer go to "http://www.shareresults.com/local_af...c.php?mid=2083"

Did anybody read PCWord's article on the 25 all time worst technology products (http://pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,125772,00.asp)? RealPlayer was listed as the second worst product of all time behind AOL.

Hi Ken

Thank you for your input. That article was referring to Real Networks RealPlayer (1999). Since that time Real Networks has upgraded it Real Player. Also, in that same article PC world mentions that Real Networks has changed the way they conduct their business and commends Real Networks for their efforts. PC World has also been quoted as saying that Rhapsody is the "Best buy online music" march 2005.

Just so you know, Share Results doesn't actually promote the Real Player product, but two of the main services from Real Networks - Rhapsody and SuperPass.

Thank you again for your feedback

It may have referred to the start of RealPlayer's downhill slide in 1999, but my expierence has been that it is as bad if not worse today and I think that was PC Magazine's point. Removing RealPlayer is a nightmare and it still tries to take over a computer. As a general practice, I remove RealPlayer from all my computers and manually go through the registry to make sure it is truly gone.

Given Real's past history of tracking users and creating software that tries to take over the computer and insisting on running resident in memory, there is no way I would ever trust their products again, and I know plenty of IT professionals and IT departments who feel the same way.

I was reading Chris Anderson's blog (author of The Long Tail) and thought his following entry was interesting:

Quote:
What do people really want in music?
I moderated a panel at the Bandwidth Music Conference on Friday that had all sorts of bon mots and wisdom, but one bit in particular jumped out from my notes. Tim Quirk, the General Manager of Music Content and Programming at Rhapsody, described the three stages of figuring out what people want in music:

Airplay Charts: "Measure what people are being fed."
Sales Charts: "Measure what people are eating from what they're being fed."
Usage Charts: "Measure what, from the music people can listen to, they listen to the most."

Now that people can listen to nearly anything, the third of these is the really important one. It reflects a metric that's only become available with digital distribution. What's on your iPod? What do people replay? What are they sharing? These are the metrics that really matter. Now, perhaps for the first time in history, we can measure the real shape of demand, and thus the real shape of music culture. And it turns out that it's not what we thought it was in the Top 40 era.
Affiliates in the Real affiliate program at Share Results are certainly benefitting from these metrics thanks to targeted, high-converting marketing creatives!

It's fascinating to see how the consumer buying data online shopping makes available shapes our understanding of popular culture.
