Build the brand...build the following...and yes, the conversions would go up...because you're targeting your traffic (you're in control of your audience)...and if "Mr.X Plumbing" is the first plumbing company that comes to mind when you need plumbing services...it increases conversions naturally.

True social marketing is not about direct sales (that's a common misconception)...it's about building the following of people that generates direct sales (builds a snowball over time that creates sales by the truckloads).

It's best to imagine social media as a "giant seminar" where you network with people...and eventually build relationships (and your brand) that lead to referrals and sales.

I think that's a good way to look at it. I didn't know much about networking until I joined Twitter, and people started following me that were also in my niche. That kind of connection allows us to exchange leads, stories, and interesting thoughts in an immediate and dynamic way that would not be possible without the internet.

Hey Guys,

I thought I'd give you an update. I did try StumbleUpon ads and so far I've only got 18 impressions (lol). I think there aren't a lot of people who search for insurance on Stumble Upon. I've got 3 ratings - 2 good and 1 bad, so that's not bad. I wasn't sure anyone would actually like the site since it is a business. I'm going to keep running the ads and see if any leads are generated from it.

That's a great list of social bookmarking sites. I usually submit to the high ranking SB sites to get my posting index. It would really take long to build authority on these sites and takes continued efforts (votes/submission) but its one of the whitehat method that surely works in the long run.

Do these social bookmarking sites really help to impove your search engine rankings? I am not sure now.
