Registration begins for .ME domain

Live, real-time registrations in the new .ME domain begins July 17, 2008. It is available to companies, organizations and members of the public.

The .ME registrations began in May, 2008 with the Sunrise period for trademark holders began. So, names such as Google.ME are already taken.

The Landrush for the general public to register names began in June, 2008.

Over 30,000 domains have been registered so far and auctions for competing applications are now being held. With open registrations, new domains registered will go live within a matter of a few minutes.

Some premium domains such as Buy.ME, Contact.ME, Fly.Me, Love.ME, Drive.ME, Date.ME and others are being for a premium auction to be announced later.

The .ME domain has been a big success.

On August 5, 2008, the .ME Registry announced that more than 100,000 domain names have been registered and a lot more have been registered since then.

The biggest interest has been in the United States which accounts for 71 percent of those registrations.

During the Landrush portion in June, .me domain names were priced at $99.98, but many domain names were purchased by more than one person. Those are being auctioned and some of them are bringing very good prices.

In September, 2008, the premium .me auction will be held. Some of these much wanted premium domain names are expected to go for rather high prices.
