A free one that is starting to get a reasonable amount of attention is Active Virus Shield. It checks for updates every hour. Free Anti-Virus Protection - Active Virus Shield

I've been very happy with Avast so far and thanks for the links to others everyone -- never know. I wouldn't mind paying for Anti Virus software, but all those large one's bug me and let's face it, free is easier to take!

I've still gotten trojan's and virus's no matter what Anti Virus I use -- usually a new one that sneaks thru (although how they got on my computer is still quite a mystery to me but whatever, they did!) so I have some qualms about the big anti-virus sell, but at the same time, don't feel ignoring it and not having any is a good idea, either. An ounce of prevention, as they say.

I've been using AVG Free Advisor - AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition for years and I don't get daily pop up ads.

What does happen every single day at the same time is something that is great. It checks for an update. If there is one, it updates automatically. It might take a minute or so, but it is worth it because of the importance. On days when there is no updates there is only a second or two are used and I hardly notice.

Wow, how did you manage that? Every single day, right after the update, which didn't bother me at all, this large (covered 7/8ths of my 19-inch screen) pop up ad would barge right in front of whatever I was doing and I had to stop to acknowledge it by clicking on an "Okay" button. It just started to drive me batty and someone somewhere mentioned Avast, so when I restored the other day I grabbed that one. So far so good. I like the ease of use and all...

Right after the update I don't get a pop up ad. What I get is a small box that says the update has been completed. If I click ok, the box will go away. If I don't it will countdown for 30 seconds and this it will go away on its own. If I click on it right away this is just something that adds an extra second to the update, which isn't a problem for me.

I am glad you are pleased with Avast. People obviously should use what they find is the best for them.

MrCat if you use and like the Panda software, have you considered promoting it?

The Panda Affiliate program is managed by one of my 5 Star clients.
Amwso. Here is some info about Panda's recent name change and the affiliate program.

Panda Software is now Panda Security. 7/30/2007.
