Default Your favorite anti-virus program

I have run upon people who have said they have no virus concerns because they are very careful and don't feel they need any anti-virus software. Some have mentioned they got a virus scanner with their computer a couple of years ago. They have given no thought to updates. Naturally 5 Star members know better than to take chances.

There are so many choices when it comes to antivirus programs. Some are free and some are far from free. Some hog resources and others don't.

My favorite is actually available for free. It is AVG Anti-Virus. It has daily updates, live scanning and scanning of e-mail. The email scanning isn't just limited to Microsoft e-mail programs as some are.

Here is a link to AVG Anti-Virus Free AVG Free Advisor - AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition

AVG also has a professional version which has more features.

Another free anti-virus program is Avast. They also have a professional program. This link is to their free antivirus program Free antivirus - avast! 4 Home Edition

I also like the virus protection available from Panda Software Antivirus, anti-spyware, anti-spam, firewall. Protect yourself with Panda Security

PC-cillin from Trend Micro is another that I like Antivirus & Content Security Software | Securing Your Web World: - Trend Micro USA

I am starting to like NOD32 Antivirus Software Best Antivirus Software - NOD32 Antivirus Software Gateway Servers from ESET

One that I have really liked for years is F-Prot Front Page - F-PROT Antivirus

There you have some of my favorite anti-virus programs.

How about you? What are some of your favorites?

I use AVG but prefer to pay for it - superstitious I guess. You won't know what features are lacking until it's too late?

I used tiny personal firewall for years (and still do on some machines) but have just changed to zonealarm which is much improved on previous versions.

We used Nortons too but at one stage we were having to reinstall every couple of weeks and the uninstall-cleanup process was diabolical. I don't know what was going wrong but AVG was a welcome improvement.

We just switched to AVG. We were using Norton and found that it did not block all the virus programs out there. The live update feature is a joke. We were always getting a popup that our computer was at risk and to update. When we tried to update the program said that live update was already running. Then I went to the Symatec site to update and could not figure out what to do. So I downloaded AVG and uninstalled Norton. Haven't had a problem since.

We bought another computer that had Macafee on it and uninstalled that and put AVG on it and have not had any problems.

Norton seemed to block a lot of programs and there seemed to be no way to allow the programs to load. We had a bad experience.

Default My favourite antivirus

I use PC Cillin from Trend Micro and I'm happy with it. I also used Norton Antivirus, but it seemed to me that it significantly slowed down my computer.

A couple more that are popular with a lot of people are:

Kaspersky Kaspersky Lab: Antivirus software

F-Secure F-Secure.com > F-Secure Corporation protects consumers and businesses against computer viruses and other threats

Both of these have be around for a good while.

I've been using the free anti-virus from Comodo. I recommend checking it out at Comodo's free products section.
