Default Is this the next MySpace

They think they can be the next MySpace and they are making every effort to achieve that goal. They were founded in 1999 and are very popular in parts of the world. A few days ago they started trying to tackle the United States market.

They are Cyworld. They are very big in South Korea, where one in three has an account and 90% of residents between the ages of 24 and 29 are members. They are also doing well in China, Japan and Taiwan.

Many in the United States have used MySpace to promote their sites and businesses. It will be very interesting to see if this is one way in which Cyworld will be used.

Cyworld is not the same as MySpace. Cyworld has "simulated reality" computer games in which thousands of players play each other at the same time in what they call "persistent world."

Cyworld has a cartoon character avatar which the member dresses the way they want. These member characters visit each other in various forums. They have three-dimensional "minihomes."

Members can purchase furnishings for their minihomes, clothes for their avatars and music to play on their minihome's stereo system.

Cyworld doesn't center on trying to bring strangers together. It is aimed more at relationships between relatives, neighborhood friends and co-workers.

I have given just some of the details about Cyworld. There is a lot more to Cyworld. Here is a link to Cyworld do you can have a look at it for yourself Cyworld

Some time has passed since Cyworld launched their U.S. version. Cyworld isn't becoming as popular in the United States as they had hoped it would. It is slowly making a little progress. Right now it doesn't look as if they are going to be the next MySpace in the United States but they do continue to do very well in some countries.

One very interesting thing about Cyworld is their revenue source. Their biggest source is E-commerce rather than advertising. It is second only to iTunes in songs sold. Most of Cyworld's income is the more than $300,000 in daily sales of digital items used to decorate user Web pages.
