I haven't used GoDaddy, but the horror stories scare me. I tried RegisterFly, now I can't get them to stop spamming me.

I'll stick with NameCheap. The one time I ever had a problem, they fixed it promptly and they never spam me.

I can believe it. I didn't actually register a domain with Register Fly, just tried one of their services and I literally had to train my e-mail client to treat all of their correspondence as spam.

To make matters worse, they still have a balance on my account that they refuse to refund. When I initially deposited money into the account, it didn't process properly and I ended up being charged twice. When I tried to get a refund on one of the overcharges, I didn't even receive a response from the Customer Service.

Since it was only a few dollars, I decided to chalk it up to a learning experience. Now, I will never touch RF with a 10-foot pole.

I've used GoDaddy for years now. I have 15 domains registered there. I've never had an issue and will continue to use them for their inexpensive registration and fine service.

I decided to add a little more to this thread because of developments since the last time anything was posted in this thread.

You may have seen RegisterFly mentioned a few times in this thread. They ran into a lot of problems and all RegisterFly accounts were transferred to GoDaddy. You can read all of the very interesting details are in this thread The RegisterFly mess - ICANN getting involved

Price, service, and convenience are all important to me. Peace of mind is also very important. I don't want to be worried about the future of my registrar.

I'm going to tell some of the reasons I use Go Daddy. Some of you who also use GoDaddy might want to give your reasons. Those of you who use other registrars might want to tell others why you made your selection.

Way back when I registered my first domain name the price was $100. Some of you who have been around a while might remember that. Eventually the price dropped to $35, but there was still only one registrar.

Competition started and I moved to one with a lower price and then to GoDaddy with even lower prices. I have now been with GoDaddy for several years and all of my domain names are registered with them.

GoDaddy is the largest registrar in the world. They have had very expensive commercials on the Super Bowl. They sponsored the Indianapolis 500. They have other sources of income in addition to being a registrar. They are big and seem to be very strong. I am not worried about them not being around tomorrow. That peace of mind is worth a lot.

With any company that has millions upon millions customers, there are going to be some people who aren't going to be pleased. However, the vast majority of people who are GoDaddy customers have nothing but good things to say about them.

I'm with you, Larwee -- love Godaddy.com's services. I found it a bit confusing at first and even over-whelming with all the offers, add-ons, etc., but now that I'm familiar with it, I believe I'll be sticking with them for a long, long time. Love the prices, features, everything. Thumbs up to GoDaddy.com!

Default GoDaddy has raised .com prices 12 percent

GoDaddy has quietly raised .com prices 12 percent. For a long time the regular price was $8.95. GoDaddy has raised that by $1.04 and the new price is now $9.99. There is also the 20 cent ICANN fee. Therefore the total registration price is now $10.19.

The wholesale price that all registrars has to pay was increased, so it is no surprise that GoDaddy increased their price. Other registrars also increased prices. However godaddy.com raised their price more than some would have expected. The wholesale price went up by 42 cents. GoDaddy added an additional 62 cents to that and raised their price by $1.04. But Go Daddy often has discount specials so it will often be possible to register a .com domain for less than the $9.99 base price.

I've been a GoDaddy customer for years and have always been very pleased with them. I am certainly not going to stop using them because of this price increase.

My first registrar was Network Solutions, where I paid USD 100 for 2 years.
Now I use answerable.com, which is a Registrar in India. I also have some domains with Godaddy, but I am trying to consolidate all registrations with one Registrar. So far I have been unsuccessful, since Godaddy is just not providing the required transfer key.

Moniker.com - all the way!

1: Solid as a rock, they are here to stay.
2: Good pricing if you have the special pricing account.

.COM: $7.44
.NET: $6.04
.ORG: $7.65
.INFO: $4.94
.MOBI: $9.95
.BIZ: $7.65
.US: $6.95
.CO.UK: $6.95

3: Piece of mind - security is top notch - and my domain isn't going to placed under quarantine by Moniker whenever/whoever starts to complain about my site and then subsequently place a ransom fee to get my domain back reinstated...like Godaddy does.

They also treat your domains as assets and not like...domains...unlike Godaddy who pulls domains away from legitimate domain owners just because they did not get a response via email. (A phone call to get in touch is something they did not learn in customer retention school?)

All in all - i don't like Godaddy because they don't value their customer's assets and people.

Shutdown of Chinese dissidents' sites

In 2007, several websites critical of the human rights abuses in People's Republic of China were shut down by Go Daddy, possibly under the pressure of the PRC government. Go Daddy denied any political involvement in the shutdown.
I have been gradually transferring my domains away from Godaddy and i wouldn't recommend Godaddy to anybody personally.

There is a real dark side about Godaddy that lot's of people are unaware of.

This post is a personal opinion based on Godaddy's mentality towards their customers, based on stories that has come to my attention in main stream news.
