Default Your favorite registrar. Do you use a high price one?

Several years ago I used an expensive registrar because there was no competition then, so there wasn't any choice. Things later changed and I went with lower priced registrars until I found the one that I liked and I have stuck with them.

Some registrars offer more features and services than others. But there are many low priced registrars who offer just as much or more than any of the ones charging those high prices.

There are still registrars charging $35.00 a year, while there are also quality registrars charging less than $9.00 a year. This means it is possible to register four domain names at the lower priced registrar for about the same price as one at the higher priced registrar.

There are registrars with prices in between the ones I've mentioned and they do have customers. Even those with the highest prices have plenty of customers. People deal with them for all types of reasons. Some think the higher price means they will get better service. Some people just don't know better. There are other reasons as well.

This could be an interesting topic that could provide some useful information to some people who might read it.

I use Go Daddy http://www.godaddy.com and I have for several years. I register all of my domain names with them. I love their prices, features and service.

For a good while, GoDaddy would force people to go through all types of sales pitches during the purchase but a while back they changed it so it would be possible to skip all of that if you want to. This makes it a much more pleasant experience.

I've never had any problem with Go Daddy. I have confidence in them and I feel they will be around for a while. All of this is important to me and is why I stick with them.

What about you?

Do you use one of the more expensive registrars? If so, why do you?

What registrar or registrars do you use and why?

Your answers could help some people who are trying to make some decisions in relation to registrar selection.

Default Registry

Great topic Larry!

I basically am my own registry through the Bulkregister services. I don't really work that side of my business much, but I do buy, trade, sell domains on a large scale ... so, being the registry service comes in handy. I've been with them for about 8-10 years, I've lost count.

Bulkregister also has an amazingly wicked fast DNS service that I've not seen anywhere else. My sites propigate in seconds ... not minutes, not hours, not days ... seconds!!!

I have domains at GoDaddy/BlueRazor and DomainSite too ... usually because I bought them from someone else and have to get through the grace period before I move them over to my registry.

I think GoDaddy/BlueRazor, CheapNames and DomainSite ... they're all pretty comprable.

Go Daddy for me. If you have enough domains with them they'll actually call you and offer you discount deals. They also cut you a break on extending your domains when it comes time to reup.

Someone tell me if they've heard of this. I registered a site with Godaddy cause they were the cheapeast I could find. Contacted my host MidPhase to move it over. They say they can't do it until January because you can't move a newly registered site for 60 days according to ICANN. Now, MidPhase charges $21 to register a site.

Yes, I've heard this before. It is true. Here is the way ICANN words it:
Quote:
The Inter-Registrar Transfer Policy, applicable to all ICANN-accredited registrars, provides that registered name holders must be able to transfer their domain name registrations between registrars. You must wait 60 days after the initial registration or any previous transfers to initiate a transfer.
You can find more details with this link ICANN | FAQ for Domain-Name Holders
