Default Google now offers domain registration

Google is now offering domain registration for $10 a year. This price includes private registration at no additional cost, which makes their price lower than those who have lower registration prices but charge extra for the private registration.

As many of you know, private registration might have some advantages but it also has some disadvantages. It will reduce the spam you receive, but there are many who won't deal with certain types of operations if they use private registration because it can look like they are trying to hide.

Google is offering this domain registration for people who sign up for their Google Apps and don't have their own domains. Google takes care of all the work for them.

At the present time they offer registration for .com, .net, .org, .biz and .info domains. Google has said they plan to offer registration for other domains in the future.

Google has been an ICANN Accredited Registrar for a good while. However they have teamed up with GoDaddy and eNom for these $10 registrations.

Google isn't a traditional registrar. That offer mentioned was for people who signed up with Google Apps and didn't have their own domains. That isn't what you would do if you wanted to renew or if you just wanted to register a domain.

You may see RegisterFly mentioned. They had a lot of problems and GoDaddy has now taken over their registrations.

My personal choice is GoDaddy http://www.godaddy.com I have been using them for several years without any problem. I have been pleased with their service, plus they have low prices. In addition they are the largest registrar in the world.

Here is a link to a thread that will give you an idea of some registrars that some of our 5 Star members like. Your favorite registrar. Do you use a high price one?

I've used GoDaddy for quite a while, but I switched to 1and1.com. Main reasons for my move:

1) $5.99 / year + Free private registration
2) Easier control panel for mass edit

I'm annoyed by GoDaddy's user interface. I guess I'm the weird one since everyone's recommending GoDaddy.

Now, I haven't used 1and1.com's other services, so I don't know how good they are with other services. But for domain names, I'm very satisfied. I have more than 300 domain names registered through them.

Why pay more...for same service..
