Can a fraudulent site fool you into giving your identifying information? Can you tell the real site from a phony one designed to trick you?

McAfee has a 10 question quiz to let you determine just how sharp you are in this area.

The quiz deals with the psychological attack and the technical attack.

McAfee says that you should feel bad if you don't do well on the quiz "because the phishers who put these sites together are using really, really sophisticated psychology and technology to get us to not use our common sense."

According to McAfee, there are some important things you should keep in mind:

Avoid panic -- You don't have to click on anything right now. Take the time to think it through;

Never click on a link in an e-mail -- If you want to go to your bank's Web site, type the URL in yourself; and

Bulk up, security-wise -- Use anti-phishing software along with your traditional security software. The combination will help protect you.

That's interesting -- I once, while in a hurry, actually started to respond to a PayPal phishing e-mail; quick went in and changed password when I realized it was bogus. Was a close call, especially for someone who ought to know better! Don't act in haste as the old saying goes...lol.

So how did everyone else do on the quiz? I had 7 of 10 -- missed some of the banks/credit one's...sigh.

There has been a lot of phishing talk so I decided to see if I could get a few people to take this phishing test.

The results aren't those from a scientific test. It was 5 people I know who aren't 5 Star members. I was able to get each one of them to give it a try today.

The results weren't good. One person did get 8 of them right. The others got between 4 and 7 correct. However, the important thing is that they all said they learned a lot from the test and all the information supplied. They know they could do much better know and have a better idea about how to know phishing attempts when they see them.

My little test with 5 people didn't mean very much, but here is something that does.

According to those behind this quiz, more than 750,000 people have taken it and only 6.2 percent of them got all 10 correct. This shows that most people can be fooled by some phishing. Hopefully most 5 Star members are able to do very well on the phishing quiz.
