Default Mahalo human powered search

Mahalo is a human powered search engine which promises to save you some time by finding and organizing the best links for search terms.

Mahalo says they never link to spam, mediocre content, or deceptive sites.

They do a fairly decent job on what they offer. They plan to write result pages for the top 20,000 search terms. They haven't reached that yet. They display Google results when you search for terms they haven't yet written results pages for.

Mahalo looks different than your typical search engine and it has some features which could be of interest to some people.

It looks as if they have a long ways to go before gaining wide acceptance.

Here is a link to Mahalo so you can see if it is something you might be interested in using for some of your searches Mahalo.com: Human-powered Search

Interesting concept. I think it's neat to have a human edited search... The thing I think about is results leading to bribes and blackmail. Kinda like the whole Dmoz editor & shoemoney stirup.

AffiliateUnleashed, Mahalo has several safety nets in place to keep anything like that from happening. The method of operation is very different.

In case you are wondering, Mahalo is Hawaiian for Thank you.

Mahalo is concentrating on the top 20,000 search terms. They don't have that completed yet. But they do have a lot. They have their human powered search pages for those top search terms.

Here is what they will link to:
Quote:
We will link to:

1. ... sites that are considered authorities in their field (i.e. Edmunds for autos, Engadget for consumer electronics, and the New York Times for news).
2. ... sites which create original, high-quality content on a consistent basis.
3. ... sites that have been operating for over one year. Sites under a year will be considered, but most will be placed in a "member-submitted" section at the bottom of the page until they hit the one-year mark.
4. ... sites that have clean layout, design, and a modest amount of advertising.
Users are allowed to suggest links and they also have something they call Mahalo Greenhouse, which allows anyone to write search result pages and get paid for each page that gets accepted by Mahalo.

Mahalo has a good editorial process:
Quote:
Mahalo has an editorial process to ensure that each search result is reviewed multiple times. Search results built in the Mahalo Greenhouse by our Part Time Guides are quality controlled by both our Mahalo Mentors and our Full Time Guides before being added to Mahalo. Search results built internally by our full time staff are checked by other Full Time Guides and our editors. We also have a place on every page where you, the public, can report problems or errors with our pages. Our Guides then check these errors and correct them. Additionally, we have a dead link checker which helps us remove links that are no longer functioning and a full time team watching the news to make sure that every hot search term or news item is updated quickly.
