Big Think wants to produce an exchange of ideas among academics, writers, politicians and other people. Some are calling it a YouTube for intellectuals.
Big Think is in beta. Investors include people such as Peter Thiel, who is a co-founder of PayPal and one of the early Facebook investors, and Larry Summers, who is a former U.S. secretary of the Treasury and former president of Harvard University.
Big Think is starting with 100 hours of video interviews of people such as Senator Edward Kennedy, former Governor Mitt Romney, businessman Richard Branson, author Naomi Klein, musician Moby, Supreme Court Associate Justice Stephen Breyer and chef Jacques Pepin.
Big Think hopes these videos will inspire user-generated content to comment on them and to create new videos.
Big Think also has experts in business, medicine, science and other fields who have webcameras and will report the latest developments in their areas of expertise.
